A little about me and this website

I started my love for hiking and the great outdoors as a fourteen year old lost soul in the mid seventies. I think it was an escape from my early childhood problems. I started out on North Yorkshire Moors, a short couple of train journey's from Billingham on a Saturday or Sunday morning. In the hills I felt free and happy and safe. I loved navigation and spent as much time "heather bashing" with a compass as I did following the not so distinct paths in those days.
I soon found the Lake district. A two hour journey on the "Great Northern" bus from Darlington to Penrith. Another local bus from Penrith took me into the heart of the Lake District . I always remember sitting next to a guy who to me, seemed to be a hundred and twenty. He was also heading into hills to hike. My immediate thoughts the were "I hope I'm doing this stuff if I ever get to your age".
Well here I am now, not yet one hundred and twenty but well past the sixty mark. Over the years I have built up a huge database of photographs and digital images. So I'm hoping to get as much posted on this website as time and interest allows. I will be linking the walks to my recordings in the Outdoor Outdoors App where I have created one.
Why "Tony's Tours"? Well over the years I have organised many walks, MTB days out and holidays for others. Over the last few years it has been noted that while out folk seemed to gravitate towards me to ask for information and which way to go as if I had an "ask me" flag flying over my head. However, I became more notorious when organising a holiday in Turkey when we arrived at a hotel in the early hours to find a pile of rubble!
I hope you enjoy viewing and please do let me know what you think in the comments sections.
I am adding images to my Etsy shop. TonysTours Feel free to browse and buy a digital image should you wish .
